Overview

Survodutide is a dual agonist targeting both the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucagon receptors, formulated as a peptide for subcutaneous administration. The compound is designed to leverage GLP-1-mediated glucose control and appetite suppression alongside glucagon-driven increases in energy expenditure and reduction of hepatic steatosis.

Research Summary & Key Findings

Phase 2 data presented in 2023 demonstrated substantial weight loss and reductions in liver fat in participants with obesity and metabolic dysfunction. The safety profile was generally consistent with GLP-1 receptor agonists, with gastrointestinal side effects being most common. Pivotal phase 3 trials are underway to assess long-term efficacy and safety.
