Bursin

Subcutaneous injection

Overview

Bursin is a tripeptide (Lys-His-Gly) originally isolated from the bursa of Fabricius in avian species. It promotes B-lymphocyte differentiation and immunoglobulin production.

Mechanism of Action

The therapeutic rationale is to selectively enhance humoral immunity in conditions marked by antibody deficiency..

Research Summary & Key Findings

Preclinical avian and mammalian models have shown bursin-induced increases in B-cell maturation markers and serum immunoglobulin levels. Clinical translation has been hindered by limited potency in human systems and lack of controlled human trials.

Clinical Status

Research Phase

Bursin is in the research phase with limited clinical data in humans. Current evidence is primarily derived from preclinical (animal or in vitro) studies.
